any other Kelt 9m fin keelers out there?

guyrsmith
Hi There,

I'm new here, so firstly I would like to say that I am so pleased to have found a site for Kelt owners at last. I have been looking around for a year or so but have only just managed to stumble upon this site.

I am co-owner of a Kelt 9m called Hadajar that we race out of Brighton (UK). We are keen weekend racers, out sailing almost every weekend. Brighton is one of the only yacht clubs in the UK that races throughout the year, and as such we go out in all reasonable (i.e not more than a force 7) weathers.

We also do a few longer distance races such as the Round The Island Race (RTIR), and the Penzance around Scillys and Back (PASAB), as well as the occasional cruise across the channel etc.

Are there any other Kelt 9m yachts owners on here? if so I would love to have a natter about specific technical things, so please get in touch.

I'm also looking forward to having a chance to interact with all you sailors of other types of Kelt too.

Happy Sailing,

Guy

Hello

As I said i recently bought a 1983 built (n 66) Kelt 9 which still has a number of problems due to carelessness of the previous owner. One problem especially worries me and I'd like to have your piece of advice; when motorinG at more than say 3 knots the natural tendency of a right turn propeller becomes too strong and it is too heavy on the tiller to contrast its tendeny to turn left. The engine is a yanmar G20 turning a fixed 2 blades propeller. Any idea/advice ?

thanks a lot

Yes we have a Kelt 9m which is kept at St Cyprien Southern France, we sail the western Med. We use "Snoopy" as a live aboard so we can stay there each year for several weeks at a time. This is the third yacht we have owned and we just LOVE Snoopy and it has proved to be a very safe sea boat.

Hi just found this forum I have a kelt 9m  guess you already have an answer but if you don't . There is a large balance  area on the rudder this makes her light to steer under sail but is a problem under power . I just clip the autohelm  on and steer with that

Welcome to our Kelt forum Guy.

My wife and I sail a Kelt 7.6 in the Niagara region (great lakes area) of Canada.  We would love to be able to sail year round but are happy with the 3-4 months we get per year.

We have owned our boat for two years now and love it. Great boat, great sailing!

Enjoy and greetings to all our Commonwealth friends.

John & Jacquelyn
