Unstepping the mast - Kelt 7.6

shday
Hi,

In a month or so, I'll need to take the mast down for winter storage. According the the user manual, I should be able to just remove the forestay and "walk" the mast down. Does anyone have experience doing this? I was wondering how heavy the mast will feel or if there are any precautions I should take.

Thanks,

Stephen

Thought I'd provide an update.

I unstepped the mast by walking it down with the help of my two sons and wife. We started wth two of us at the mast, one in the cockpit, and another holding a line attached to the mast at the spreaders. This line was mainly for safety and the person holding it was on the dock about 10 ft forward of the bow.

A few things I learned:

1. The yolk/stand at the stern should be high enough so that you can rest the mast on it while removing bolt at the base (the pivot point). Mine wasn't and everyone got pretty tired as I struggled to get the bolt out.

2. Make sure the boat is stern-to-dock so that someone can help lift the mask form there.
