Long trips across the Bay can be pretty tiresome, and a moment's inattention can mean undue excitement or at best, inefficient sailing.
This season we installed a Simrad TP-2000 tiller pilot, and so far have been pretty pleased with the 'robot-hand' on the tiller.
It does have limited range, and isn't exactly quick going from lock to lock, but once you are on a heading that you want to keep for a while, it is really quite relaxing to kick back and let it steer. Also great for motoring up into the wind to hoist and drop sails.
Happy to give any other thoughts to those interested.
