Polishing before winter

markobar
Today was a work day. Polishing the boat was a must as it had been left untouched for many years before I got my hands on her. I used two polishers. One random orbit and one orbital. Both had aggressive polishing pads on them. I used 3M marine restorer and wax to get an idea of how mad this thing was. It came out quite nicely for the first pass around the hull. Next I’ll use the orbital with a wool pad. Same wax. And do it again until it gleams.

First image only the starboard side bow was done at this point. You can see how chalky the hull was before I got to it.

This is obviously the port stern and it was also very shiny after first passes.

Mine is in similar shape.  I have owned the boat for six years now and have only attempted waxing a couple of times with rather disappointing results.  Maybe I need to try the more aggressive approach like you did.

Your boat looks great!

Looks great!  kudos to you for having the gumption to do boat with that late in the fall!

One question - what are these thinks on either side of the bow?

These are chrome covers for anchor locker drain holes on either side of the bow.  Perhaps yours were removed and the drain holes plugged at some point.

Ah!  Rather neat way of handling that!  My boat doesn't actually sport those because mine (not a Kelt) is too small to have an anchor locker. There is a 7.6 in Chester I might go down and see this spring.  I've been interested in larger Kelts, but looking any Kelt in the flesh is probably a good first step.
