You can make up a tackle with a hook on one end to attach through the sail and attach the other (the actual tackle with cam cleat) to the mast collar. Run the tail of the tackle line back to the companionway so you can adjust without leaving the cockpit.
You could make a more elaborate arrangement, but this works on mine.
